What Our Families Say

The best ballet and dance school in Miami. My daughter has not only learned how to dance there, but she has also developed discipline and responsibility. It’s a place where she has grown both as a dancer and as a person, and where she has built friendships that I’m sure will last a lifetime. 100% recommended! Extra plus: great location.

My daughter started Early Ballet at three and a half with no experience whatsoever. She was shy at first, but the teachers made her feel so welcome. After just a few weeks she was excited to go every class.

What Children Actually Learn

Classical Technique

Positions, pliés, tendus, dégagés, and the foundational vocabulary that builds genuine ballet ability from the ground up.

Alignment & Posture

The physical habits that make ballet movement safe, visually clear, and beautiful, and carry into how a child carries themselves every day.

Turnout & Footwork

Hip flexibility, foot strength, and the precise coordination that underpins every classical movement, taught safely and progressively.

Jumps & Turns

Safe, progressive introduction to allegro and pirouette work as students develop the strength and control to execute them correctly.

Musicality

Learning to hear, respond to, and phrase movement within music: an artistic skill as valuable as technical precision.

Performance Confidence

Year-end performances and recitals give students the experience of sharing their work, and the lasting confidence that comes from it.

Why Miami Royal Ballet

Classical Training. Personal Attention. A Real Community.

Every child in our program receives individual corrections in every class. Faculty know their students by name, understand their challenges, and actively guide their development. This is not a large-studio environment where a child gets lost in the crowd.

Our curriculum is classical: the same foundational vocabulary, the same technique standards, the same pathway toward advanced training and pointe that professional dancers trained on. Your child receives a real education in classical ballet.

Many families stay with Miami Royal Ballet for years, sometimes their entire childhood dance career. That continuity with the same faculty, the same community, and a deepening curriculum is one of the most valuable things we offer.

Individual Corrections in Every Class

Faculty know each child's technique and correct them individually, not just the class generally. This is how real progress happens.

Correct Progressions, No Rushing

Students advance when they are ready: technically, physically, and artistically. Rushed progressions create bad habits. We don't do that.

Performance Every Season

Year-end productions give students stage experience and the confidence of sharing their work in front of an audience. A real dancer's milestone.

Morning & Afternoon Options

Weekday afternoon and Saturday classes for most students. Tuesday and Thursday mornings for homeschool families. We fit around your life.

Children's Ballet FAQs

How can ballet and dance support a child's physical and mental development?
When practiced consistently and attentively, age-appropriate ballet and dance can support physical conditioning, coordination, posture, strength, musicality, body awareness, and healthy movement habits. Focused muscular engagement and careful repetition also give children opportunities to develop concentration, responsibility, discipline, resilience, patience, and follow-through. As training progresses and becomes more demanding, meaningful improvement generally requires focused, consistent work. Progress varies by student and depends on factors such as attendance, readiness, effort, instruction, and wellbeing; no specific outcome is guaranteed.
What if my child is not absolutely loving every class?
Ballet is a discipline and a growth process, so not every class will feel easy or immediately fun. It is normal for dancers to move through challenging periods as coordination, expectations, and confidence develop. Consistent attendance and age-appropriate follow-through can help children build resilience, responsibility, confidence, and the ability to persist, but every child and family is different. Parents ultimately decide which commitments are right for their child while considering the dancer's feelings, wellbeing, and circumstances. MRB faculty give respectful, thoughtful feedback with each student's best interests in mind and welcome conversations with families about concerns, progress, and the most constructive path forward. Our goal is to help each dancer grow without suggesting that one path is right for everyone or that a child's wellbeing should be dismissed.
Where can we park?
There is usually plenty of street parking. Merrick Park offers a 15-minute child drop-off and pick-up window; normal parking rules and fees apply beyond that window.
Do students have opportunities to perform?
Yes. Miami Royal Ballet presents recitals, performances, competitions, community appearances, and special events throughout the year. Opportunities vary by program, age, placement, and readiness, and our faculty will explain the experiences available to each dancer.
What schedule and commitment should families expect?
Schedules and recommended weekly commitment vary by program, age, level, goals, and placement. Consistent attendance supports progress. After a trial and faculty recommendation, our team will explain the current schedule, availability, season commitment, and registration steps before your family enrolls.
What should the dancer wear to a trial class?
Wear tights if available; otherwise, shorts and a comfortable shirt work well. Ballet slippers or ballet shoes are preferred, but socks work if you do not have them yet. The required uniform is sold at the studio after enrollment.
How does enrollment work after a trial class?
After the trial, our faculty confirms the recommended placement and the studio team reviews current availability with your family. When the dancer is ready to enroll for the full season, you can complete registration for the approved class. Placement and space are confirmed directly by the studio.
At what age can my child start ballet at Miami Royal Ballet?
Our Early Ballet program begins at age 3. Children ages 5 and above are welcome in our Elementary Ballet level, which this page covers. For ages 3–4, see our Early Ballet page.
My child has never danced before. Is that okay?
Yes. Elementary Ballet A is designed as an entry point for children who are completely new to dance. No prior experience is required. For older beginners (ages 9+), our faculty may recommend starting in Intermediate Ballet based on maturity and any prior movement experience.
How does level placement work?
Our team considers age, prior experience, readiness, and goals, then recommends the class that will best support your child.
When is Pointe introduced?
Pointe work is introduced only when our faculty determine that a student's strength, technique, skeletal development, and overall readiness are appropriate. This is not offered based on age or desire alone, and there is no minimum number of years. Readiness is assessed individually.
Can my child add Jazz, Acrobatics, or Lyrical?
Yes. Jazz, Acrobatics, and Lyrical/Contemporary are all available to children who have an established ballet foundation. Participation depends on age, current ballet placement, schedule availability, and class space. Our team will advise on which combinations make sense.
Can my child join mid-year?
New students are welcomed throughout the year when an appropriate class has space. Request a trial class and our team will advise on current openings.
What should my child wear?
Ballet slippers and a leotard, with hair neatly secured. For the trial class, comfortable clothes they can move in are fine. Specific uniform requirements are shared after enrollment.
Is there a homeschool / morning option?
Yes. Our morning program runs Tuesday and Thursday mornings and is designed for homeschool families and students with daytime flexibility. See our Morning & Homeschool Classes page for the full schedule.
What if my child is in the wrong level?
Faculty actively monitor student progress and will recommend level changes when appropriate. If you have concerns about your child's current placement, speak with our team. We want every student in the class that serves them best.
